Scratch Lamb of God's "Ashes of the Wake" from the list. It's a good album but was released in August of 2004.

"Lamb of God"?
That shit needs to be excluded on the basis of name-geighity alone...

That didn't stop you from listening to Pearl Jam in '92 Bitch. Didn't you even come back from Lollapaloozer with a lock of Eddie Vedder's hair?

Posted by: Aaron at December 3, 2005 2:54 AM

Yeah, it's a shame your mom wouldn't let you go to that Lollapalooza with us. You really made up for it next year though when you went crazy in the pit for Alice in Chains!
That was almost as cool as that wet dream you had about Mike Patton two years later....

Oh Burn!!!

Posted by: Aaron at December 3, 2005 6:54 PM

why would you post a movie of some dude lightin' his undercarriage on fire? why would i watch it? because you're sick. and i'm curious.

Uh huh.

Black Dahlia should've been higher than honorable mention... pig destroyer released an amazing album... but that might not be metal. Nice to see DH #2 tho...

now, i've gotta say i 'm a little disappointed in clutch's showing here. admittedly, i'm not the hugest metal-metal fan (read:"death" metal), but i thought the album was somethin' else. dude - they mention dokken in the first song - damN!! but, anywah, i digress. i hear their live show (i haven't seen in a while) is gettin' fairly jammy.

anyway, keepin' it southern for the peoples:

the municipal waste record rules. good pick!

Carter I hear you about Clutch. I know you're a big fan of the newer stuff but I saw them a few months ago and was left wondering where both their Sabbath roots and their hardcore influences had gone. I was worried that Jamaican flags were going to start flying. They rock don't get me wrong but the jammy stuff is just not as accessible as their previous efforts. I'm all for experimentation and change but to me this makes them more of a rock band than a metal band.

I like their earlier stuff the most because it was harder, more straightforward and angrier (all very metal traits). Alot of the releases ahead of them on this year's best were just more awesome to me for those reasons. The bottom line is metal is really good right now for whatever reasons (Achoo! Bush got reelected, excuse me, ahem.) so it was tough to include everything.

Ryan another tough call. BDM was actually 12 but then I remembered Fantomas and my love for all things Patton dominated (refer to Adam's slam above) so it got bumped.

As far as Pig Destroyer goes, I researched Terrifyer to find that it came out in October of '04. It doesn't stop me from loving them. That album is amazing. They just couldn't be in this countdown anymore than Lamb of Geighity's Ashes of the Wake.

Rick I'm glad to have found a fellow thrasher out there in internetland.

Bolt Thrower is getting repeated alot on my Ipod right now though. The track The Killchain dominates. That shit is tasty like black mollasses and instant coffee.

The 'Honorable Mention' list contains pure evil. Goddamn that Neil Fallon and his psychofantic baboons. That Robot Hive/Exodus album has stuck in my ITunes rotation and car stereo rotation for a solid month now....goddamn it. Here are some passages to take note of, goddamn this guy is bordering on something that doesn't suck:

Ribonucleic acid freak out, the power of prayer.
Long halls of science and all the lunatics committed there.
Robot Lords of Tokyo, SMILE TASTE KITTENS!
Did you not know that the royal hunting grounds are always forbidden?

and then....

Periodic table with a center piece of mind.

Fuck yeah.

sir zim - i feel ya. i heard the same from a friend who saw a show of theirs in pittsburgh. said the same thing. and he's a long-tme clutcher. i remember even the last time i saw 'em in raleigh several years ago, they got jammy enough for neil to wander off to stage left a couple of times whilst band did they thang. c'est la vie.

i won't pretend to know what you know about the metal. but i love robot hive/exodus. it grabs my balls and makes me yell. and i like it.

all hail the metal.
