Posted by: Shane at April 11, 2004 11:31 PMI've been wondering about that Nellie McKay slab- seemed a bit cheeky and cabaret, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I know she's got this whole "I AIN'T Norah Jones" thing going on with the song title but I was wondering if that sense of humor made it into the music. Maybe you should do a review on the site? Or just fire me off an e-mail and let me know.
I wasn't really feeling that Jet album- the single is fucking awesome and I'm glad to have a copy of that but the rest of the album didn't really live up to my expectations. I guess every song on your album can't be balls-out ass-rocking foot-stomping good unless you're Motorhead or ACDC.
I am right there with you on that Kanye West album though. The more I listen to it, the more I love it. I just hope it's really making waves in the hip-hop scene because we need a lot less P. Diddy and a whole lot more K. Widdy as far as I'm concerned.
As far as this list being "fucked up"- man, you're just proving what is so great about not having your head up your ass in some ultra-specific scene where one kind of person only listens to one kind of music. I don't think that's fucked up at all.
Okay, maybe it's a little fucked up to see Rufus Wainwright and Jay-Z riding shotgun with Leona Naess, but I still think diversity in taste is where it's at. Otherwise you miss too much good shit.
yeah - that's what fucked up about it. i just pictured walking into a record store and buying all of them at once.
you've got a couple one man, depressing bands in Iron and Wine and Damien Rice; hardcore, balls-out thrash metal with Lamb of God and Devildriver; mellow relationship music with Leona Naess; pimped out Jay-Z and think-hop with Kanye; unabashed corporate rockers Jet and some showtunes on acid from Rufus and Nellie.
i think i will review that album....
