{ north carolina is so cool }

1) the wake forest ghetto zoo
2) watch airplanes all day, flying in & out of RDU.
3) art-o-mats
4) there's a whirlygig farm
5) the tree with the guitar in it, just up the street
6) museums galore. ones with dinosaurs are preferred.
7) twisty tiny trees that look like japanese paintings
8) the night sky is always full of shooting stars. maybe i just missed them all before.
9) wandering wildlife. they fear no cars 'round here.
10) one, two, three college radio stations.
11) train sounds, all day and night
12) not-crowded beaches full of vanished colonies and pirate-related shipwrecks. hurrah!

My aversion to North Carolina (and yes, I do have an aversion to it) is based on it's status as some sort of Shangri-la where jobless young West Virginians can find themselves gainfully employed, married to a beautiful spouse and living the American dream. It is also the only place outside of South Carolina that anybody from WV ever, ever takes a fucking vacation to. I've become so sick of hearing about the damn Carolinas that I've never really given them a chance. Thank you, Girl I Don't Know Yet for illuminating me.

shane and i went there a couple of times last summer, i'd never been- but i'd been checking out uncw.... wilmington is BEAUTIFUL... 3 beaches and hardly crowded... dirt cheap "tourist" activities... see the aquarium for $6, compare that to cincinnati's $25 or something ridiculous like that... plus, there's some cool restaurants and a great little down town and historical district....
