Dave Gorman's Googlewhack Adventure is a DVD, a comedy show and a book. In which Mr Gorman takes you through a hilarious period of his life where things get terribly (or exhilaratingly) out of control. His Googlewhack Adventure is a series of extreme coincidences which lead to Dave traveling a bzillion miles around the globe, meeting a bunch downright odd people, and ending up stoney broke and having suffered a nervous breakdown. So, what on earth is a Googlewhack?
If you put two words into Google and it comes back and says that only one out of over 3 billion pages has those words then that is a Googlewhack. You have to have the correct spelling of both words (you'll see them underlined at the top of the page if they are correct). There are a few more rules and points but essentially that is it.
How the hell he managed to turn a nerdy Internet word game into to the most entertaining and stimulating stage show I've ever seen is beyond me. However, he well and truly pulled it off. Although Dave Gorman is English the show started in 2003 in Australia, then took on the Edinburgh Fringe festival and toured the UK before being released as a DVD in 2004. He has just finished a 4 month tour of the US. If you missed the show live, then it is unlikely that you will get to see it again as he states on his web site. "I'm very proud of both the show and the book and all that they've achieved but I think it's time for me to focus on something else. What that will be, I don't know... but it's fun not knowing." This attitude I love, let go, fall back and see what happens.
I cannot recommend the DVD enough. Not only is it as funny as it is intellectually stimulating but it is highly fucking inspirational too. He shows that if you allow coincidences and alignments to carry you along in your life without fighting them you'll open yourself up to a rich, fun and rewarding time on this rock - you'll probably end up with a few bizarre tattoos as well. Great stuff.
