{     Got Your Nose by Ragnar     }

Childhood is full of unspeakable horrors, and this "game" was one of them for me. Usually perpetrated by a meaner older brother or cousin, perhaps even by your dirty uncle or your mean old dad- the game involves tricking a youngster into believing that you have severed and removed their nose. This has traditionally only been fun for the person pulling the trick, but writer/illustrator Ragnar has taken the concept and made it fun for everyone with this little publication. This is no traditional children's book, however. The brilliant art-deco abstract backgrounds and thick-lined characters call to mind a very stylized cartoon or underground comic, and the dark humor further separates this one from the pack. Got Your Nose is a classic in the making. It's a work of art masquerading as a children's storybook, and there's nothing not to love about it; whether you're 3, 23, or 53. Got Your Nose has been published in a limited edition of 999, by the delightfully monikered Baby Tattoo Books. It retails for $9, and is worth every shiny penny. (I know shiny pennies are pretty cool, so you're just going to have to trust me on this one.) Ragnar's second children's book Izzy's Very Important Job will be released in early September (also by Baby Tattoo Books). So don't be a Johnny-Come-Lately, pick up Got Your Nose now and preserve your playground credibility- before you know it, all the kids on your block will be doing the Ragnar thing. Also, keep your peepers peeled for an upcoming interview with the man himslef, right here on Crown Dozen.

wow, i want it just for the cover!!! i hate to read, and i don't care to admit it, but i have a love for kid's books, kid stuff in general, gloomy or not... it just looks so damn cool, and this is coming from someone who was actully afraid to turn the page in "the monster at the end of this book"
