{     Dangerdoom - The Mouse and the Mask     }

dangerdoom23354.jpgHow could this have possibly lived up to expectations?

1.) Guest spot by MC Chris (aka MC Pee Pants).
2.) No f*cking bleeping out of all the f*cking swear words. (Is this Adult Swim, or PG-13 Swim?)
3.) More SeaLab and Harvey Birdman, less Brak and Meatwad.
4.) Where’s the Venture Brothers love?

Not that I’m hatin’ entirely….

Thank God. Great job, Adam. This album is such a disappointment. Doom's my man (although I don't even think he comes that nice on this one) but Danger Mouse is horribly overrated. The man can only produce singles, not albums. All his shit sounds good for a few hours, then you just get bored of it. No depth. Also, I hate albums with too many cameos from real people, so double that with cartoon characters.
The entire project reeks of a marketing campaign hatched in some skyscraper boardroom downtown.
I guess we'll just have to wait for those Ghost/Doom joints to drop.

I don't think anybody brought their best with this piece, but I have to give Talib Kweli some serious dap for "Old School Rules". He's got all the energy that Doom lacks, and the hook he throws out on this track covers up DM's lackluster rhythms. It's definitely the best piece on the album.

The other standout track is "Benzi Box" with guesting by Cee-Lo, who I could normally give a fuck about but keeps turning my head with the cameo appearances.

I'm actually feeling like this whole thing would have gone down better as a bunch of guest spots and fill-ins after all. Maybe they could have grabbed separate crews to take on each property, opened up the sample vaults and just seen what happened. As it is, the fact that this is Adult Swim sponsored feels too much like target marketing and not enough like a bunch of toon heads riffing on their favorite shit.

I can't hate on it, really. It could've used some Venture Bros. though, you're right. Adult Swim is the greatest thing in the world. Makes me wish I was American.
